Google informs when search don’t have results that matches well your search

Google announced on 23 april the rollout of a message in SERP’s that it is going to let you know when it hasn’t been able to find anything that matches your search particularly well.

This announcement is quite unusual. It is the first time Google is letting users know when the results they’re seeing are lower-than-average quality.

Google Announcement

Starting today in the U.S., we’re rolling out a new message that lets you know when Google hasn’t been able to find anything that matches your search particularly well. While you can still go through the results to see for yourself if they’re helpful, the message is a signal that we probably haven’t found what you’re looking for. When possible, the feature will also provide some alternative searches as well as tips on how you could reformulate your query to better find the information you seek.

What Impact On Search results ?

Of course expect to see rarely this message as Google have a good result for almost all queries. But for a very small percentage of queries, Google will show up this message to the user.

This box message is not going to show for misspelling as Google systems are able to predict the right query you are looking for and in this case, provide your the best SERP’s.

Google is saying about this:

It’s definitely not what we want to see happen, and we try to prevent it in a number of ways. For example, if you spell something wrong, we have systems to detect those misspellings and provide proper spelling predictions, so you can find web pages and information that match the words you were really searching for. We also continue to make improvements to our underlying language understanding systems in Search, so even if you don’t phrase something exactly as it’s written online, we can still understand the words and concepts in a way that makes sure you can find a good match.

The message going to show up said “it looks like there aren’t any great matches for your search.”

Once in the screen, Google gives users tips and advice on how to improve their search query in order to find a better result.

The rollout has started on US and there is no information yet regarding a global deployment of these improvement.

Why this is important ?

In the context of COVID-19 this features would be helpful. On the other side, if you see this box for one of your queries, this means that you need to rework your strategies for these keywords.
